Last month, I explained how Acupuncture can help asthma sufferers. Since asthma is a condition which is often experienced among children, I thought it would be helpful to explain how Acupuncture can be an appropriate form of treatment for kids who experience a wide range of conditions. Here on some more details on why children can have Acupuncture treatments.

Conditions which Acupuncture treats

Children who suffer from ADHD, asthma, allergies, or migraines can find relief from Acupuncture. Acupuncture can also provide pain relief for children who suffer from juvenile arthritis, Lyme disease, or juvenile fibromyalgia, dental pain, sinus pain, and back pain. The treatments can be considered as a safe alternative to medications.

Acupuncture can also boost your child’s immunity. If you’re sick of getting sick from your kids, then maybe it’s time to consider Acupuncture. Acupuncture can help to protect your child from common colds, flus, and other illnesses which children tend to experience.

Acupuncture treatments are not always about needles

Children can still have Acupuncture even if they’re afraid of needles.  The superfine needles used for Acupuncture treatments are not as painful as the needles used for injections and blood tests. In addition, I can offer alternative methods of treatment that do not involve needles. For example, Acupressure is a form of treatment that can help alleviate nausea that children may experience from cancer treatments.  In this case, Acupuncture serves as a complementary form of treatment.

Acupuncture teaches children healthy skills early on in life

Many people who seek Acupuncture in adulthood reap the benefits of Acupuncture later on in life. The benefit of providing children with Acupuncture treatments is that they learn essential knowledge and attitudes about their bodies early on in life. By receiving Acupuncture treatments, children can learn to build a solid foundation of understanding. First, early exposure to treatment introduces children to an alternative mode of healing. They can learn that Western medicine is not the only form of treatment. In the process of receiving Acupuncture treatments, children also gain a thorough understanding of how to connect with their bodies in a healthy and non-judgemental manner. The feelings of relaxation and anxiety relief that result from Acupuncture treatments help children to foster these positive connections with their bodies. Overall, the healthy skills can help children to take greater ownership of their health and well being. Gaining this set of knowledge and skills are essential for all children. In addition, these skills highlight the notion that Acupuncture provides a holistic set of benefits for children no matter what their health status is.

Hopefully this blog has shed light on the idea that Acupuncture treatments are not exclusive to adults. The time to start treatments is dependent upon a child’s age, comfort level and stage of development.  If you have children, and you are considering Acupuncture as a form of treatment, feel free to contact me to learn more about how I can help.
