March 6-13th is National Sleep Awareness Week. In honour of this occasion, I thought I’d share with you how acupuncture can help you to have a more restful sleep. Many of us who suffer from irregular sleep patterns, may be experiencing one of the many sleep disorders. Our fast paced lives can drastically affect the ability to have a restful sleep or even make sleep a priority in our lives. Keep reading this blog to learn more about how you can have more restful sleep through acupuncture treatments!
Acupuncture can put your snoring habits to rest
Snoring can be mistaken as a sign of restful sleep. It can also be comical or annoying for your roommate or partner. However, snoring can actually be sign of a sleep disorder such as sleep apnea, disruptions in your REM cycles, inadequate oxygen intake, allergies or sinusitis. If you are suffering from sinusitis or allergies, it may be possible that there is a blockage in your qi, or energy flow. Acupuncturists will thoroughly investigate where the imbalances are present and ensure that a greater flow of energy is restored.
Acupuncture is a natural treatment for sleep disorders
Over the counter medications or prescribed medications have shown to be effective for those who have sleep disorders through the increased production of melatonin, a hormone that regulates your sleep cycles. You may find yourself sleeping as a result of taking these medications, but you may not find yourself having a restful sleep. In fact, many people report feeling groggy or fatigued the next morning. With acupuncture treatments, you won’t feel any of those side effects. Also, because there are so many sleep disorders out there, acupuncturists focus on treatment methods that are specific to your sleep disorder. For example, if you suffer from insomnia or sleep apnea, there may be an imbalance in your heart or liver. Acupuncturists will focus on the specific meridians affecting the imbalances in those organs. In effect, you’ll be left with a greater feeling overall well being all day and all night!
You’ll feel a greater sense of relaxation from acupuncture treatments
Acupuncture’s capacity to promote a great release of endorphins can place you in a better position to sleep. When you meet with me, I’ll also provide you with lifestyle and dietary recommendations that you can carry on throughout your day. These recommendations will also help to complement your acupuncture treatments. Greater relaxation leads to a greater sense of mindfulness. In turn, a greater sense of mindfulness can lead to the ability to make better decisions throughout the day so that you can make sleep a greater priority.
You owe it to yourself and those around you to have a better night’s sleep. Proper sleep habits can serve as the foundation for how you feel, think, and live your life. If you are having trouble sleeping, or you know someone who is, then acupuncture may be the right solution for you! Feel free to give me a call and schedule a 15-minute complimentary consultation session with me.
